  • Do you have to be aged 35 and under to enter?

Yes, as this is a BCO NextGen competition, all team members and individuals registering must be aged 35 or under at the time of registering. 

  • I am based outside of the UK, can I still enter?

Yes, we welcome UK and international submissions. BCO membership is also open to international professionals under International Membership.

  • Do I need to be a BCO NextGen member to enter?

If you are entering a team, the following restrictions apply:

  1. Team of 4 – at least 2 BCO members

  2. Team of 3 – at least 2 BCO members

  3. Team of 2 – at least 1 BCO member

If you are entering as an individual, then you will be placed into a team upon registration. Due to the team entry restrictions, we require all individual entrants to be BCO NextGen members. You can apply for NextGen membership at  www.bco.org.uk/membership. Once your membership application has been processed we will notify of your team placement.

  • Do teams need to be from the same organisation?

No, we encourage individuals to create teams with members from different organisations, and they must have a mixture of disciplines involved. Please refer to the full brief for further details.

  • Do team members need to be from mixed disciplines?

Yes, team members must be from different disciplines in order for submissions to be considered.

We are looking for multi-disciplinary teams so the following restrictions will apply:

  1. Team of 4 – at least 3 different disciplines represented

  2. Team of 3 – at least 3 different disciplines represented

  3. Team of 2 – at least 2 different disciplines represented

Disciplines are defined as: facilities management; agency; public sector; architecture & interior design; legal; quantity surveying & cost control; construction & office fitting; occupier; property management; ownership/investment; development; town planning; education/charity; valuation; project management; engineering & technical services; research; other business services.

  • Do I have to attend any events in order to participate?

No, participants do not need to attend any events. However, participants might find our summer socials and hackathons useful in preparing their proposal. The hackathons also provide a great opportunity to get together with your team.

  • What is the format for the submission?

Submissions will be in the form of a report of between 15-20 A4 pages, and emailed to events@bco.org.uk, with the subject: BCO NEXTGEN WORKPLACE COMPETITION 2017 SUBMISSION.

  • Does the 15-20 page limit for submissions include cover pages?

No, inner pages must be a maximum of 20 pages. Cover pages are not included in the count.

  • What is the prize?

The winning team will receive an invitation to attend the 2018 BCO Conference in Berlin. This will include tickets to all conference events, flights from the UK only, hotel accommodation, and a financial contribution towards transfers and subsistence. The runner-up team will receive an invitation to an exclusive private dinner hosted by two key industry figures.

  • What is the submission deadline?

The deadline for all submissions is Friday 6 October 2017.

  • When will the winners be informed?

The competition winner and runner up will be announced at the BCO NextGen Awards on Wednesday 15 November 2017, in London. BCO Member bookings for the awards will open in July, and bookings for non-members will open in August. The event will be listed here: www. bco.org.uk/events

  • Will the BCO reimburse any expenses related to the competition or events?

No, all costs must be covered by entrants. There will be no reimbursement for expenses.
